This paper outlines a new method for the study of sedimentary fabrics in well-lithified facies. The technique involves the cutting of large, thin slices of rock that can then be viewed in transmitted light. The utility of this methodology is demonstrated in sandstone, soft siltstone, and even schist. The technique is particularly pertinent to sedimentary geologists studying lithologically homogeneous sediments in which physical and biogenic sedimentary fabrics are difficult to discern due to a lack of contrast.
